At the western entrance to the city Makarska is the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, which was built by the auxiliary bishop of Split-Makarska, with headquarters in Makarska, Juraj Carić in 1908. He remodeled a natural cave, placed a statue of Our Lady and an altar in it. The cave and the chapel he had built next to the cave were blessed by me on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11, 1909, as it is written on the plaque next to the cave. 9.) Archaeological Museum NARONA was a Roman town in the area of today’s Vid near Metković. During 1995 and 1996, archeological research was carried out on the site of Plečaš’s stables, which resulted in the sensational discovery of the remains of the Roman temple – Augusteum and 17 marble sculptures of supernatural and natural height. This finding inspired the idea of a joint presentation of this unique archaeological site, both architectural remains and other numerous archaeological material.
